KAMPALA, Uganda (AP)--A Ugandan government official said the signing of a peace deal aimed at ending one of Africa's longest wars has been postponed due to the ill-health of the rebel leader.
Chris Magezi, spokesman for the government negotiators, said the delay is a "setback" but won't "undo the work we've done."
He said Tuesday that the vice president of southern Sudan, Riek Machar, told the government team that rebel leader Joseph Kony is sick and won't be ready to sign the deal until April 10.
Kony - the leader of the shadowy rebel group the Lord's Resistance Army - was scheduled to sign the final peace deal Thursday at his hideout. Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni was also expected to sign on Saturday.
Talks have been going on since 2006.
